We have a little announcement to make! We have a new member in our Ficek family. Roy went to the pet store with Ian (his absolute favorite place) and came home with an iguana! I was shocked at his spontanious ( not sure how to spell thta?) purchase. He is little but don't know actual age. Must be a baby I am thinking. So Rachel do you still have yours? How big was it when you got it? Ours keeps a close eye on the boys and scampers around if they get near the tank. Ian thinks it is great to get close and have him run terrified back and forth. He has already lost two front claws I assume from running scared. Poor little guy:( What did you feed yours when he was young? Did you hold it a lot? Any advise? I am not a pet person but am enjoying the little fella:)

Awesome! a pet after my on heart. Yes, we still have Ceaser... she is 14 years now, they life a long time with the right life style, ha. The running will not hurt him. So how big is he? Small as in the size of Roys fingers or larger? He is probally only 3 or 4 months old if small and bright green, put a picture up. Well, no regular lettuce... romain lettuce ONLY. His bod can not handle the digestive of the reguklar kind. He can eat almost anything. He needs cheese or yogurt (yogurt is just a mess) he needs that calcium, any meal that you might feed he is OK but we found that the smell of his poop is just horrible!!! any salty foods like watermellon.. he will like but will snort the salt out of his noise and gets the glass dirty. He will love red foods because he can see them OH and carrots... apples.. oranges! Just remember to give him that cheese... he does not live with out it. We almost lost Ceaser when we was 5 years old because of that, I was sad. But one trip to a specialist in Charleston and he was fixed a price, ha. It was not too bad but still the trip and the tears for that stupid thing, ha. He will need something to climb on BUT one small thing. You need to cover the branch with tinfoil and put it in the oven to kill nay bugs or bacteria... not sure if you "have it" do this but it was what the book suggested and so we did it. You might want to buy the book at the pet shop you got him or order one online. They are not expensive... but has some good stuff in there you might need to know.
Good luck with him and the more you hold him the more he will like to be held and be around you. They so bit! But hold him close to the neck and controll his body with your strengh.. without hurting him, that is. The kids so need to wash their hands after handeling him REMEMBER hands in the mouth are not OK after handeling him. He could make the boys sick.. just be careful. BUT I have never gotten sick.. BUT do wash my hands every time after.
Sorry so long, lots to say - Rachel
OH.. they also make iguana harnesses... Your iguana will love that because you can put that on him and then let him take a swim in the bath tub.. the kids would love to watch that. We used to puch Ceaser in the tub for hours... man would he love that now! but he is just tooo BIG.
Also cut the little sharp tips of his claws off she he will not hurt your hands... just like dog.. don't cut close.
